Esperanza had nine champions and Fountain Valley had eight champions Saturday in the CIF Southern Section Individual Championships for boys wrestling.
Esperanza won the CIF-SS Northern Division team championship in the meet at Moorpark High.
Fountain Valley won the Coastal Division team title at Fountain Valley High.
Esperanza and Fountain Valley both repeated as team champions.
Santa Ana won the CIF-SS Eastern Division championship, scoring 238 points. Corona was second at 216 points.
Esperanza tallied 380.5 points while second-place South Torrance finished with 170 points.
Fountain Valley collected 381.5 points, with second-place South Hills finishing with 153 points.
Esperanza’s Sammy Sanchez and Max Murillo repeated as CIF-SS champions.
“The kids wrestled well,” Aztecs coach Christian Holiday said. “We had some tough finals matches. The kids are peaking at the right time, as they showed today.”
Repeat champions for Fountain Valley were Christian Stoeber and Mikel David Uyemura.
Several Orange County girls wrestlers were repeat champions Saturday in the CIF-SS Individual Championships: Deja Aldridge of Trabuco Hills; Lilyana Balderas of Anaheim; Eva Garcia of Marina; Aubree Gutierrez of Marina; laina Salazar of Santa Ana; and Angelica Serratos of Santa Ana.
The top five finishers in each weight class in each of the CIF Southern Section’s six boys divisions qualified for the CIF-SS Masters Meet that will be held at Sonora High on Friday, Feb. 20.
For girls wrestling, the top eight finishers in each weight class of the four divisions in CIF-SS advance to the CIF-SS Masters Meet at Sonora High on Saturday, Feb. 21.
