Two teams from Orange County will get to enjoy the comforts of home for their CIF Southern California Regional championship games, while three others will be on the road.
Yorba Linda (14-0) will be home against Liberty of Bakersfield (11-2) on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the Division 1-A title game. Yorba Linda won the CIF Southern Section Division 3 championship Friday by defeating Upland 9-6. Liberty is the Division 1 champion from the CIF Central Section.
Laguna Beach (11-3) is the other Orange County that will host a regional championship game. The Breakers, who won the CIF-SS Division 9 title, their first in 76 years, play Granada Hills (11-2) in the regional Division 4-A final Saturday at 6 p.m. Granada Hills is the CIF L.A. City Section Division I champion.
Laguna Hills, Northwood and Whittier Christian are the three county teams that will be on the road for their Southern California championship games.
Laguna Hills (13-1) plays at Birmingham of Van Nuys (9-4) in the Division 3-A final Saturday at 6 p.m. The Hawks won the CIF-SS Division 9 championship by defeating Golden Valley. Birmingham won the City Section’s Open Division championship.
Northwood (13-1), the CIF-SS Division 8 champion, travels to Delano to play in the 4-A final against Kennedy (11-2) on Saturday at 6 p.m. Kennedy was the CIF Central Section Division III champion.
Whittier Christian (10-4) is at Crenshaw (6-7) in the Division 7-A final on Friday at 7:30 p.m. Whittier Christian won the CIF-SS Division 14 title by defeating Lynwood, and Crenshaw is the L.A. City Division III champion.
Only section champions are eligible to play in CIF regional and state games.
Winners of the Southern California Regional finals will face Northern California Regional winners in CIF State championship bowl games on Dec. 9-10.
There is no regional round for teams placed in the CIF State Open Division. St. John Bosco, which defeated Mater Dei for the CIF-SS Division 1 title, will play Serra of San Mateo (13-1) for the state Open Division title at Saddleback College on Dec. 10 at 8 p.m.
Regional games on Friday start at 7:30 p.m. and the Saturday games at 6 p.m.
