We might not have a tax deadline this week, but we can still get old paperwork in order, shredding sensitive documents bound for the trash.

Orange County’s Credit Union is hosting a shred and e-waste event from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 22 at its Santa Ana campus.

The event, held in honor of Earth Day, will give customers an opportunity to safely recycle unwanted documents and electronic waste while helping Children’s Hospital of Orange County.

Garden show blooming at South Coast Plaza

An upcoming, four-day spectacle of flowers and plants will take over the Crate & Barrel/Macy’s Home Store wing at South Coast Plaza.

Hundreds of flower and plant displays will sprawl across three levels of the retail center for the 33rd Southern California Spring Garden Show between April 20-23. The centerpiece is a 25-foot-high floral creation featuring depictions of California animals and plants, all made with flowers and other natural materials.

The show will include outdoor living displays, 35 specialty vendors with collectible plants for sale, as well as nonprofits and horticultural organizations offering advice and information.

Not to be left out, the Jewel Court wing will have elaborately decorated mannequins and installations created by local floral artists.

Remix shop opens in Orange

The Junkluggers’ franchise in Orange has opened a Remix thrift store loaded with goods hauled from neighbors’ overstuffed garages.

The store, not far from the former Katella Grill and Century Stadium Theaters, already is open for business but will celebrate an official debut Saturday, April 22.

Junkluggers’ franchisee and Villa Park resident Joe Sandoval opted to sort his junk hauls, selecting the best of the best to resell in a shop that fronts his sorting facility.

Store manager Hanna Caruso said the company wants to keep reusable materials out of area landfills. Junkluggers offers free hauling estimates. Quotes, she said, can be made and junk hauled at the same time.

The shop has a few rooms displaying the usual thrift-store items such as clothing, kitchen wares and furniture.

A portion of proceeds from the junk hauls and Remix store go to Patriots and Paws, an Anaheim-based nonprofit that helps veterans, active military and reserves furnish their homes.

The Remix debut coincides Saturday with Earth Day. The shop will have food and vendors on site from 4-7 p.m.

Address: 1135 W. Katella Ave., Orange. Phone: 714-912-6584.
