The mall is also welcoming the return of fashion retailer Express and the addition of three local merchants: the florist Flowers on Wheels, tea and snack cafe Lollicup Fresh and WOW Games, a store for gaming enthusiasts.

WOW Games specializes in new and used games and systems, art, trading cards and gaming accessories. Location: Level 2 near Lids.
Flowers on Wheels makes and delivers floral designs and fresh flower arrangements. It’s on Level 1, near Macy’s. The store is opening later this month.
Lollicup offers flavored teas, milk, lemonade, slushies, smoothies, cold brews, popcorn chicken, pizza and french fries. Opening in September, the cafe will be on Level 1, near JCPenney.

Fire Ecology program seeks high school interns
The nonprofit Crystal Cove Conservancy is seeking interns for its Fire Ecology program, which runs for 13 weeks during the 2024-2025 school year.
The program offers Orange County high school students the opportunity to learn from hands-on experience the impact of fire on local ecosystems. Students and land managers this year also will study how fire frequency can potentially alter the soil biome and the microbial life that lives within it.
The program this year extends from October through May 2025. Interns will experience a combination of virtual classes, in-person field days and lab work at open spaces throughout Orange County and the Microbial Evolutionary Ecology Lab at UC Irvine.
“We’re thrilled to be expanding the Fire Ecology Internship and give high school students the opportunity to experience two different types of real, hands-on scientific research techniques,” said Kate Wheeler, president and CEO of the Conservancy.
The Fire Ecology program is in its fifth year and was made possible through a partnership with California State Parks, Irvine Ranch Conservancy and UC Irvine.
Coordinators will look for applicants from backgrounds and communities that have historically been excluded and underrepresented in the STEM field.

Mullen’s building 3,000 EVs for UAE client
The Brea-based electric-vehicle startup Mullen Automotive has cut a deal with Volt Mobility in the United Arab Emirates to build 3,000 Class 1 and Class 3 EV cargo vans and trucks over a 16-month period.
The deal is worth $210 million, with an initial $3 million deposit going to Mullen within 60 days. The company in a statement said it will begin shipping the first vehicles immediately.

Volt will lease the Mullen vehicles to corporate customers in the Middle East and Gulf States. Those clients include UPS, DHL and FedEx in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
In addition to its cargo van lineup, Mullen also manufacturers a cab chassis trucks, all produced in Tunica, Mississippi, by its subsidiary, Bollinger Motors.

Tatsuro Omura on Friday was named chief financial officer at Mazda North American Operations in Irvine. Omura, previously general manager of the Business Structure Strategy Department at Mazda Motor Corp. in Japan, will play a key role in steering the automaker’s financial strategy and operations in the U.S. He joined Mazda in 2005 and has since held roles in product cost, profit management and corporate strategy and planning. The company reported US sales in July reached 39,866 vehicles, a 30% increase compared with July 2023. For the year, Mazda sold 242,352 vehicles, a 13% gain.
