99 Ranch Market is open at Larwin Square in Tustin.
The Buena Park-based company debuted in late July in the former Vons at 550 E 1st St. The store was briefly a Haggen supermarket before the company went bankrupt.
99 Ranch signed a 15-year lease for the 40,000-square-foot store, according to the property owner, ValueRock in Irvine. It’s the 63rd store for 99 Ranch and the third in the Tustin/Irvine communities.
The Asian grocer stocks myriad products including fresh fish (some swimming in tanks), meat and sushi-grade fish, produce, pantry goods (an abundant amount of sauces, spices, noodles, rice and snacks), prepared food, plus household accessories to cook and store it all.
The store also offers a bakery, drink stand offering coffee, tea and smoothies, plus an array of hot food including barbecue and dim sum.
The shopping center also has Big 5, an OC Goodwill boutique, Daiso, Rite Aid, El Pollo Loco and Crunch Fitness.

Shoe shop for kids opens at Mission Viejo mall
The children’s shoe retailer Taranis opened this summer at the Shops at Mission Viejo.
Taranis sells shoes in six stages to support children’s feet as they grow.
The store is on Level 1, across from Cotton On Kids.

Retail recap: Big Lots closing 75 stores in CA
Discount retailer Big Lots last week said it will shutter 75 stores in California.
A 386-page filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission detailed new loan terms with its creditors, which including closing more stores than it previously thought. Two months ago, Big Lots said it would close 150 stores, but that number has vaulted to 315.
California is taking the biggest hit. By the time the latest 75 stores close, it will operate just 34 locations in the state. At least 30 of the closures are in Southern California.
On the move
Gail Orum-Alexander is the new dean of the College of Pharmacy at Marshall B. Ketchum University in Fullerton. She previously was an associate dean at the KGI School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Claremont. She also held the position of dean of the College of Science and Health at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science in Willowbrook.
Ryan Brenes has been promoted to chief operating officer from director of operations at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Huntington Valley in Huntington Beach. Laura Portier-LaLumiere also was promoted to chief advancement officer. The club has nine locations in Huntington Beach and Fountain Valley serving 4,000 youth each year.

Orange County Business Council on Aug. 9 added three members to its board of directors. They include Jason Bennett, senior vice president at Farmers & Merchants Bank; Paul King, SVP at McCarthy Building Co.; and Enrique Perez, vice chancellor of Educational Services at Rancho Santiago Community College District.
Matt Schweickert, formerly with Home Depot as its chief officer for strategy, technology and user experience, recently was appointed to the board at BigRentz in Irvine. BigRentz has more than 6,000 active construction equipment rental companies in the United States.
Appointments
Newport Beach resident John Carvelli, a partner and executive vice president at Liberty Dental Plan from 2004 to 2024, recently was appointed to the California Horse Racing Board. Carvelli also is a member of the Catholic University of America Board of Trustees, The FAMILY San Francisco and the North American Boxing Federation Executive Committee. The racing board position requires Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem. Carvelli is registered without party preference.
Good works
The Golden State Foods Foundation recently donated $11,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank of Orange County, part of its fifth annual Focus on Food campaign. GSF Foundation reps said the organization hit a milestone this year, donating the equivalent of 1.35 million meals to food banks across the U.S.
