Madi Lam threw two touchdowns to Kayla Burmood and Santa Margarita’s defense played well as the Eagles’ girls flag football team defeated San Marcos 13-0 in the Division 1 final at the O.C. Labor Day Classic at University High on Monday.
Lam, a senior, connected with Burmood, a junior, for a short touchdown late in the third quarter and for about a 12-yard score with less than four minutes left in the fourth.
“(The) MVP was our entire defense,” said Santa Margarita coach Brad Finneran, who praised the play of pass rushers Sisley Cain, Gianna Braga and Avery Finneran, and linebacker Fiona Agius.
Santa Margarita posted its fifth shutout in improving to 11-0.
The Eagles (12-0) beat Trabuco Hills 41-21 on Tuesday.
In the Division 2 final, undefeated Portola scored with 41 seconds left and added the extra point to edge Shadow Hills 14-13.
