BOYS BASKETBALL TOP 25

Notable this week: Canyon, the No. 1 team in the preseason rankings, remains in the top spot, ahead of No. 2 Mater Dei. … The rankings have been expanded to 25 teams for the rest of the season. … No. 5 Fairmont Prep beat No. 6 Orange Lutheran 49-48 in the Diablo Inferno championship game Saturday.

1. Canyon 6-0: The Comanches won the championship of the Rumble for Rosecrans tournament last month and defeated Rancho Verde in a nonleague game Saturday.

2. Mater Dei 3-1: Monarchs split their two games in the Hoophall International event in London. They had a loss to nationally-ranked St. Paul VI of Virginia and a win over Pace Academy of Georgia. Zach Davidson scored 21 points in the win.

3. Santa Margarita 6-1: Eagles finished third in the De La Salle Tournament with a win over James Logan on Saturday. Cameron McNamee and Rockwell Reynolds were named all-tournament.

4. JSerra 4-0: The Lions’ early-season results include a 77-54 win over Villa Park. They play in the Beach Bash tournament at Corona del Mar and Newport Harbor this week.

5. Fairmont Prep 8-0: The Huskies have won two tournaments, including the Diablo Inferno last weekend. Sophomore forward Maper Maker was tournament MVP.
