Crean Lutheran boys water polo coach Jeffrey Runyan has resigned, Saints athletic director Eric Olson confirmed Monday.

Runyan, in his second season, didn’t return a message seeking comment.

Crean Lutheran has named former coach Ed Carrera as its coach, Olson said.

The Saints took a 3-3 record into the Santa Barbara tournament last week and lost to Laguna Beach 13-10 for a spot in the main draw.

Last season, Crean Lutheran finished second in the Crestview League and fell to Yucaipa 12-7 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs.

Carrera resigned after the 2023-2024 boys and girls seasons to focus on North Irvine Water Polo Club.

He highlighted his three-year run in 2021 by leading the Crean Lutheran boys to the Division 6 title, the first section water polo title in school history.

In Carrera’s final season, Crean Lutheran reached the Division 2 quarterfinals.

Runyan also resigned as Crean Lutheran’s girls water polo coach, Olson said.
