Remember suspected package thief “Postal Malone?”? Irvine police gave him that moniker because of his resemblance to musician Post Malone.

Now they’re after another celebrity lookalike, according to the police department: the “Backstreet” bandit, a nickname they bestowed on him because, they say, he looks like the Backstreet Boys’ AJ McLean.

They emphasize that the alleged thief is definitely not the singer.

Irvine police hope the public can help identify the man, suspected of stealing packages from an apartment complex mailroom on Spectrum.

The police department shared footage on Nov. 19 showing a man who followed an Amazon delivery driver into a secured mailroom on Oct. 31 and walked out with packages that apparently didn’t belong to him.

“Quit playin’ games with our mail,” the Facebook post says, evoking one of their hits, but subbing in “our mail” for “my heart”.

This was not the first time the mailroom has been targeted, police Officer Ziggy Azarcon said. On Aug. 22, the police department shared footage of a woman stealing packages from the same location. She was arrested the following day after a follower who saw the video online submitted a tip, according to the department.

No details were available about what was taken in the recent theft. Anyone who recognizes the latest suspect is asked to contact Officer Paulsen at spaulsen@cityofirvine.org.
